There are so many places in our vast network to get a good grasp of my mistress style and voice, but that one dimension is not necessarily enough to determine if I’m The One — the one who will really “get you”, the one worth trusting with your complexities and your secrets. So keep reading and you may find something that resonates for you.
Although I’ve called Manhattan home for several years now, I’m originally from New Jersey — but would really like for all of us to forget that! At 17, I headed to Fordham University in NYC (bad choice – I’m just not that freakin’ catholic!) and got out of there with my BA in under 3 years. Within a few months I was on a plane to Scotland with a work permit and 2 suitcases. I met a cute guy at a martial arts class there, married him, and divorced amicably a couple of years later. That ex was a crossdresser – who knew he’d turn out to be a job qualification later that decade!
During my years out of the country, I did a whole bunch of things – living the dream really, one I’d had since I was in 6th grade. I taught English in Spain and Japan, and earned a master’s in linguistics from the University of Edinburgh (yes – as in Scotland). I do not consider myself fluent in anything but English, but I’m pretty damn good at attaining “advanced tourist” level of most languages in a matter of hours. I also specialized in statistical research because I have a talent for mentally manipulating numbers faster than anyone in the room. I even scare stockbrokers with that.
Turns out I don’t “do corporate” particularly well, so a year after I returned to NYC and suffered through a brief career in acquisitions research, I headed to Bangkok to train up in Thai massage at the oldest massage school in the world. I had a nice little independent, non-sexy massage practice for a few years and then decided to turn crappy economy lemons into skill-upgrade lemonade. So I’m temporarily living in Colorado for the rest of 2011 while I complete the training. Since bodywork is something I can only do safely for 25 hours a week max, I’ll always have plenty of time for phone fun!
In case it is somehow not obvious from either the brief autobiography above or my wishlist, my driving passion is travel. I have been to nearly 30 countries – most of Europe (all parts, from Norway to Portugal to Slovenia), Asia (Philippines, Japan, Thailand), the Near & Middle East (Turkey, Jordan), South & Central America (Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica). I’m hoping to revive my 2010 plan to visit the Cradle of Life – Kenya & Tanzania. I wouldn’t say I have a gourmet palate, but I hated coffee until Costa Rica, can state with utter certainty that I hate sushi after a catastrophic attempt in Japan, made a pilgrimage to the 19th century birthplace of pizza in Naples, discovered the succulent mangosteen in Thailand, and sadly never developed a taste for malt whisky after many, many a distillery visit in Scotland (hic!). I’ll spare you my numerous unintentional Fear Factor-esque experiences though… I’m good like that.
But traveling isn’t something I do more than a couple of times a year, so rather than sit around moping between trips… I’m also a pretty regular runner – I participate in the various 4K & 5K timed races in Central Park about once a month. I balance that out with yoga once or twice a week. I’ve had 8+ years of martial arts training but am not currently taking classes – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Krav Maga are my favorites. My charity interests are Kiva, Doctors Without Borders, Thai Freedom House, The Baobab Home – I love the last two for their grassroots efforts. I’m also fond of taking classes to keep myself stimulated – languages and archaeology are my usual go-to subjects. On the low-brow end of the spectrum…I like playing craps at the cheap tables and am not afraid to do it in another currency. I mean, how else is a jetlagged globetrotter supposed to pass a 7-hour layover in London?
